Education

As a parent, educator and a product of the public school system, education is a top priority to Angela. She will fight to ensure that the education all students receive is second to none. Supporting effective teachers, educating parents of their options and securing schools will make the education system the best it can be. Angela believes that vaccinations are crucial for healthy kids and schools; and, unlike some politicians, she believes that teachers who are convicted of hurting children should be removed from the classroom and payrolls, period.

Environment

Angela is a champion of the environment. Her plan for California includes fixing the recycling system; increasing litter recycling and removal along freeways and beaches; and improving the Valley’s air quality. In addition, Angela will advocate for neighborhood integrity, and she will fight for fair development.  Finally, she will work with energy experts to ensure California continues to be a national leader in clean energy creation and usage.

Traffic

In her first 100 days in office, Angela will introduce legislation to create incentives for employers that allow employees to work from home and to work off-peak shifts, which will alleviate drive-time traffic. This will decrease congestion, increase productivity and improve our quality of life.  Additionally, Angela supports opening carpool lanes during non-peak hours and will ensure that Caltrans fast-track construction projects to improve flow on the freeways.  Finally, if LA County voters pass the measure M transit tax in November, she will fight for the Valley to get our fair share.

Crime

The crime rate in Los Angeles is on the rise. Angela’s plan will increase resources and support for the LAPD so we have more law enforcement officers in the Valley to respond to emergencies and to quality-of-life issues that impact our neighborhoods on a daily basis.

Business

Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy. Angela’s experience as a small business owner gives her insight that many politicians simply don’t have. She believes in fostering our local tech economy that creates economic activity and opportunity, as opposed to stifling it, like some in Sacramento. She will create an environment to lure new businesses to the Valley, and she will ensure that small businesses are able to run efficiently so they can continue to employ thousands of Californians.

Homelessness

Los Angeles has one of the largest homeless populations in the country. We cannot allow this epidemic to shame our city any longer. Angela vows to work tirelessly with mental health professionals, police, shelters and other homeless advocacy groups to ensure that we have the most humane, efficient and effective homeless policy in the country.

Immigration

Angela has dedicated hundreds of hours to helping immigrants legalize. Her efforts with the immigrant population earned a Los Angeles County Bar Association public service award. She will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those seeking a better life will find it in California.

Outdoors and River

With amazing weather, our parks, trails and local mountains are jewels to enjoy year-round. Angela will protect our open spaces — from giant resources such as the Sepulveda Basin to our neighborhood playgrounds and dog parks. Angela will make sure the revitalization planned for the LA River starts in the Valley, where the LA River begins. We deserve our fair share of bike trails, public access and restoration projects to make the LA River a recreation area for Valley families.

Angela Rupert is an accomplished attorney, educator, small-business owner, wife and mother of a three-year-old son. She graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas and Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. As an attorney, she represented consumers defrauded and injured by corporations and she advocated for the rights of the disabled. Angela currently educates those who wish to immigrate to the United States of their legal rights. She serves on the Loyola Law School Board of Governors and volunteers as an adult literacy tutor for the Los Angeles Public Libraries. She is not a career politician bowing to special interests. Instead, she is a working mother living in the Valley determined to make a difference for her family and neighbors. As an Assemblymember, Ms. Rupert vows to focus on what she considers to be the basic issues and concerns of those living in the valley: quality education, safe neighborhoods and ample job opportunities. Ms. Rupert ran a lean and mean grassroots campaign in the primary and handily earned a place on the general ballot. She won with the help of friends, family and neighbors. She plans to run a professional campaign and will secure victory in November. She lives with her husband and son in Toluca Lake.
